How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Mechanic with Tires

If you need to figure out how many miles to go before rotating your tires, you’re certainly not alone! Although your owner’s manual will generally include a specific recommendation for your model and model year, most Cherry Hill-area drivers rotate their tires once every 5,000 to 7,500 miles.

When to Rotate Tires: Know Your Interval

So, how often should you rotate your tires? In actual practice, there’s no single answer to this question. However, if you know what kind of drivetrain your vehicle possesses, you can minimize the risk of problems by sticking to one of the following intervals:

  • FWD/RWD Tire Rotation Interval: 5,000 to 7,500 miles
  • AWD/4WD Tire Rotation Interval: 3,000 to 5,000 miles

Why is it important to know when to rotate tires for AWD vehicles? In the simplest terms, AWD drivetrains put more stress on each of the vehicle’s tires. Since this extra stress can tend to accelerate tire wear, scheduling tire rotations more frequently can help to even things out!

When to Rotate Tires: What to Look For in Person

Your tire pressure monitoring system can tell you when your tires are low on air, but you’ll need to look directly at your tire treads if you want to assess their remaining life! There’s an easy way to tell if it’s time to schedule tire rotation:

  • If you have a tread wear gauge on hand, place it into each tire at multiple locations.
  • If you notice differences of more than 2/32 of an inch in depth, scheduling tire rotation can help to even things out.
  • If any of your tires have less than 2/32 inches of tread remaining, replace them as soon as possible!

Why Rotate Your Tires?

Going too long without tire rotation can lead to significant differences between the sizes of your tires–and this, in turn, can lead to significant declines in performance.

Without regular rotation, you’ll experience:

  • Reduced traction on slippery roads
  • Slower acceleration and less responsive handling
  • More noise and vehicle shake on Turnersville roads

Tire rotation is also supposed to counteract the differences that arise between the tread depths of your vehicle’s four tires so that you don’t have to replace them at different times. Keeping up with your regular maintenance appointments will help you enjoy a more convenient upgrade. When you come in to replace your tires, we can also help you explore accessories like Nissan Altima factory rims!
